Is eating a heavy meal for dinner healthy? Well, doesn’t this question perplex many of us? Particularly those who of us who believe that calories=food’. Food is the magical power that is not only the reason that you are alive but also nourishes us to live a happy, satisfied and accomplished life.
However, some people fear that eating heavy meals for supper. Why? They tend to think that when the sun sets, breathing, vision, circulation and many other activities performed by the body reduce. No! The human body is ever working, even when we are dead-asleep through the night.

The excretory system, the breathing through the lungs, the pumping of the heart – all work 24/7 and this is a feat that can never be matched by any machine. Thus, powering up the body is important, be it after or before sunset.
Heavy dinners bring about ‘fat hangovers’
Eating a very heavy, lavish dinner causes what is commonly known as ‘fat hangover’! It is just like how drinking excess alcohol ends up slowing you down the following day. In the same way, eating a heavy, high-sugar or high-fat meal for dinner, overloads and tires up your digestive system. It, therefore, doesn’t get enough rest throughout the night, thus slowing your body mentally and physically the following day.
The important thing here is to maintain a good balance. Eat a healthy, carb-included, light meal every dinner and see how easily you will be falling asleep. You will wake up full of life, happy and fresh the following day. It will help clear your bowels, and it will also have a huge positive effect on weight loss along the way!
Also, it is better to eat your dinner as early as possible because this means you are going to be active for some longer time before heading to sleep. When you are awake, your body works at a basal metabolic rate (BMR), but when you are asleep, it slows down to resting metabolic rate (RMR).
The more the number of hours you are awake, the more your body will be in a position to burn more calories. But, is eating a heavy meal for dinner healthy? No! It is not healthy at all. Nonetheless, as previously stated, dinner is an essential meal and, therefore, shouldn’t be overlooked/skipped. So, eat a light dinner and try to stay awake for at least three hours post that. Sacrificing your sleep might be the price you’ll have to pay, but you really can’t win everywhere!
